1.1 Scope This section applies to the electrical types specified in 1.1 and 1.2, with the main contact used to connect circuits with a rated voltage of AC not exceeding 1000V or DC not exceeding 1500V. The starters and/or contactors involved in this section are generally not used to break short-circuit currents. So appropriate short-circuit protection appliances (see 9.3.4) form a part of the equipment, but are not necessary for contactors or starters. This section applies to the following contactors and starters: - - Contactors equipped with overload and/or short circuit protection appliances--- Starters equipped with separate short-circuit protection appliances and/or with separate short-circuit protection appliances and their own overload protection appliances--- After assembling a contactor or starter with a short-circuit protection device according to specified conditions, such as a comprehensive starter or protective starter, it is considered as an integral unit. In integrated starters and protective starters, circuit breakers or fuse combinations used as short-circuit protection devices should correspondingly meet the requirements of GB 14048.2 and GB 14048.3. This section includes the following electrical types: 1.1.1 AC and DC contactors. AC and DC contactors are used to connect and disconnect circuits. If combined with appropriate relays (see 1.1.2), they can protect circuits that may experience overload during operation. Note: When a contactor is combined with an appropriate relay for short-circuit protection, it should meet the relevant conditions specified in the circuit breaker standard (GB 14048.2). This section also applies to the operators of contactor relays and specialized contacts for contactor coil circuits. This section also applies to contactors or starters with electronic control electromagnets. 1.1.2 AC Motor Starter AC motor starter is used to start and accelerate the motor to the rated speed, ensure continuous operation of the motor, protect the overload operation (operation) of the motor and its related circuits, and cut off the power supply of the motor. This section applies to overload relays in starters, including electronic overload relays with or without the extended functions specified in Appendix H.
