This standard specifies the main technical requirements and related terminology for marine radio communication equipment of the Global Maritime Distress Safety System. This standard applies to all passenger ships and ships of 300 Gt (gross tonnage) and above in various maritime navigation areas. 2 Reference standard JT 4607 Water Communication and Navigation Terminology 3 Terminology 3.1 Global Maritime Distress and Safety System Navigation Area GMDSS area. In the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, the world's sea areas are divided into four navigation areas; a. A1 sea area; refers to at least one very high frequency (VHF) with continuous DSC alarm capability The area covered by the shore platform may be specified by the governments of each contracting state. b. A2 sea area z refers to the area covered by at least one medium frequency (MF) shore station with continuous DSC alarm capability, except for A1 sea area, which may be specified by each contracting party. c. A3 sea area: refers to the area covered by INMARSAT geostationary satellites with continuous alarm capabilities outside the A1 and A2 sea areas. d. A4 sea area: refers to the area outside the A1, A2, and A3 sea areas. 3.2 Emergency position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) is a wireless beacon that can automatically or manually transmit distress alarm signals in emergency situations. 3.3 Satellite Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (satellite EPIRB) is an emergency position indicating radio beacon used in satellite mobile services. 3.4 NAVTEX (service) is a service that uses narrowband direct printed telegrams to transmit safety information at sea to relevant ships in English and is automatically received by ships at the internationally specified 518 kHz frequency. 3.5 Frequency-shift telegraphy F1B telegraphy signal is a communication method that moves the carrier frequency between predetermined values. 3.6 Phase modulation report G1B telegraph signal without modulating subcarriers, which changes the carrier phase between predetermined values without modulating subcarriers
