The characteristics of digital substation protection devices were analyzed, and in-depth research was conducted on the testing methods of digital protection devices based on on-site practice. Two testing schemes, traditional protection tester with merging unit and digital protection tester, were proposed, and the advantages and disadvantages of the two testing schemes were analyzed. Through a professional network traffic simulation device, the network background traffic under different bandwidths was simulated, and the operation time of digital protection was tested. Analyze the feasibility and accuracy of debugging the two schemes. The test results prove that the traditional testing scheme of protection plus merging unit is mainly suitable for factory debugging, and the testing scheme of digital protection tester is used. The error of the entire set of action time is reflected in the uncertainty of switch action time
