This standard specifies the performance requirements for DC or AC electronic ballasts. The power supply includes an AC power supply of 50 Hz/60Hz and below 1 000V. This type of ballast is a converter equipped with triggering and stabilizing components, which can operate the discharge lamp under direct current or at a frequency different from the power supply frequency. The discharge lamps matched with the ballast include high-pressure mercury lamps, high-pressure sodium lamps, and metal halide lamps. This standard does not include ballasts for fluorescent lamps and low-pressure sodium lamps, as well as ballasts for special lamps used in theaters and motor vehicles.
