This standard specifies the principles and requirements for measuring environmental surface radiation dose rates, as well as the technical regulations that should be followed. This standard is applicable to the measurement of radiation dose rates on the surface of the environment near nuclear facilities and other radiation devices, as well as to the measurement of surface radiation dose rates in other environments. 2. Reference standard EJ 379: General provisions for environmental radiation monitoring. 3. Terminology 3.1: The environment refers to the public environment in which humans live, and does not involve radiation workplaces. 3.2 Environmental monitoring is the monitoring of the environment near nuclear facilities and other radiation devices. 3.3 Environmental Surface Radiation Dose Rate The air absorption dose rate generated by natural and artificial nuclides in surrounding materials at a certain height above the surface (usually 1 rm) in fields, roads, forests, grasslands, squares, and buildings. 3.4 Source related environmental monitoring refers to measuring the surface dose rate level caused by a specific source or practice to determine the contribution of a specific source or practice. 3.5 Human related environmental monitoring refers to the measurement of environmental surface radiation dose rate in situations where there may be several sources of exposure - population groups, with the main purpose of estimating the dose equivalent given by all sources. 3.6 Important sources are considered important sources from a monitoring perspective due to their large daily emissions and potential high dose rates. 3.7 Secondary sources have a very low external radiation dose equivalent rate (approximately 1 pSv per year) in publicly accessible areas, and the normal release of radioactive nuclides in the effluent is also very small, with little or no possibility of accidental leakage. Each independent source in this category is considered a secondary radiation source under appropriate shielding and control. Sources with moderate properties between important and secondary sources are considered as sources with moderate properties
