This section specifies the requirements for RF coaxial cable components (consisting of cables and connectors) that transmit transverse electromagnetic wave modes (TEM), and also specifies general requirements for testing the electrical, mechanical, and environmental characteristics of coaxial cable components. Additional requirements related to specific types of cable components are given in the corresponding sub specifications. Note 1. The design of the cables and connectors used should first comply with the applicable parts of IEC 61196 and IEC 61169, respectively. Note 2r: This section does not include the tests usually conducted separately on cables and connectors. The tests conducted separately on cables and connectors have been specified in the applicable parts of IEC 61196 and IEC 61169, respectively. Note 3: Even if the cables and connectors used in cable components are not specified in the IEC 61196 and IEC 61169 series standards, wherever possible, they should be tested according to the test methods given in the relevant general specifications. Note 4: When additional protection is applied to cable components, the mechanical and environmental tests specified in this section also apply.
