Testing of electromechanical contactors for household and similar purposes

1. Scope of application

The contactors involved in this standard are generally not used to break short-circuit currents, so appropriate short-circuit protection appliances should be equipped during equipment installation (see 9.3.4). This standard does not apply to the following electrical appliances: - contactors that comply with IEC60947-4-1; - semiconductor contactors; -- Contactors for special purposes; - Auxiliary contacts for contactors, see IEC 60947-5-1 for their requirements. This standard specifies: a) the characteristics of contactors; b) The requirements that contactors should meet: 1) operation and performance; 2) dielectric performance; 3) enclosure protection level (if applicable); 4) structure; 5) electromagnetic compatibility. c) The tests and methods used to verify compliance with the above requirements; d test procedures and quantity of samples; c) The information to be provided in the contactor or manufacturer's sample.
