Scope GB 13140.1-2008 This chapter is replaced by the following: This part of GB 13140 is applicable to twisted connection devices (abbreviated as TOCD, the same below) that connect two or more untreated hard and/or soft copper wires. The connected wires should comply with the requirements of GB 3956-1997, with wire cross-sectional areas ranging from 0.5 mm2 to 16 mm (including 16 mm2), and the sum of cross-sectional areas not exceeding 35 mm2. The TOCD in this section is applicable to low-voltage circuits with voltages not exceeding 1000 V (a.c.) and 1500 V (d.c.) for household and similar purposes. The TOCD design in this section is mainly operated by hand, but a certain type of TOCD, such as a TOCD with a large cross-sectional area of connecting wires, may require the use of specialized tools. Note: In the UK, TOCD's 2-pipe connectors or some non equipped flexible cables, including 1.25 mm2 crossover flexible cables, must comply with BS 6500 appropriately; wires and cables in the United States currently do not comply with IEC 60228. 2 Normative References: The clauses in the following documents are referred to in this part of GB 13140 and become the clauses of this part.
